I was looking for an image of a tiny camera as a joke to send to a DP friend, and this image came up, which was fine, so I stole it for my email. I'm shooting a documentary in Vancouver using a Canon XF100, which is the one-chip, $1000 cheaper version of the XF300 which has, you may have guessed this already, 3 ccd's. It's got pretty decent image quality and I appreciate the lightness of it, because much of what I'm shooting is handheld, and also, I'm interviewing a lot of people who aren't used to being interviewed, and a smaller camera is much less intimidating. You can see some footage at the website, at least, one roughcut sequence right now (mid October). More to follow. I used to be a grip in Vancouver, for about 20 yrs, and had to lug, mount, and move Panavisions and Arri's and so on. In the arctic, in Greenland, up mountainsides. I quit before RED became popular, in fact it was only in 2007 I quit but alot has changed since then. My DP friend does far more work with digital imaging than with film, although he would love to work more in the latter format. At least I got to make and edit a couple of student films the old way, on a flatbed editor, holding the stuff in my hands, letting it spill over the side of the table and coil into the BINS. We use the same terms now in Final Cut, Premiere, Avid, but these legacy terms really don't mean much to new, young filmmakers. Even the term "film" is dated: try to buy some reversal film at your local drugstore or camera store!

[...] It’s not perfect and a director’s cut is in the works to iron out some of the kinks, but this is exactly what we managed to accomplish (writing, shooting, and editing-wise) in just 48 hours, despite the curse. [...]

Well, good thing it was 48 instead of 24 hours, eh?! Crazy to hear that things were so cursed, but I'm glad to hear you got it done! Looking forward to seeing it. I hope it's not too scary. Good luck tonight! -Larissa
